Harmony Forge, Santa Fe, NM

A Master Blacksmith Forges Form and Function
Harmony Forge features fine architectural and decorative ironwork and art by preeminent Santa Fe Blacksmith, Ward Brinegar. Renowned for his spectacular iron work in many Sanfa Fe residences, Ward handcrafts custom forged iron gates and doors; lighting; wrought iron and wood furniture; candlesticks; hat trees, decorative hooks and hardware; sculptural art and of course, uniquely beautiful fireplace screens. His organic designs often include animals and plants, such as fireplace screens featuring hummingbirds, burros, horned toads and quail, a "San Francisco" line of decorative hooks with pelicans, lizards and owls, doors featuring woodland scenes with jumping fish, and gates designed with running horses. A beautiful Harmony Forge pot rack features delicate grapevines cascading down from ceiling vigas and surrounding a rustic copper stove hood.
A Tradition of Craftsmanship
Ward has been pursuing the craft of blacksmithing since 1975. His dedication to fine craftsmanship, meticulous attention to detail and excellent service to his clients have been the hallmarks of his work from the beginning of his career, his founding of Harmony Forge and through today.

Having grown up in Albuquerque, and graduated from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM, Ward attended the Turley Forge School of Blacksmithing in Santa Fe. He then apprenticed with Joe Pehoski at the Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer in Grand Island, Nebraska, replacing Joe as resident blacksmith there in the fall of 1976 and serving in that position until 1989.
He is also honored to have had the opportunity to learn from the late "Dean of American Smiths," Master Blacksmith Francis Whitaker during that time. In 1989, Ward came home to Santa Fe and opened Harmony Forge, finding artistic inspiration in the mountains and high desert he knows so well, and enjoying the robust building market here. In ensuing years, Ward has also learned a great deal from partnerships with Bob Bigelow and Jim Pepperl, and has been fortunate to have several fine employees, some of whom have gone on to start blacksmithing businesses of their own. In the summer of 2001, Ward moved harmony Forge to the Dancing Anvil Ranch, 15 miles south of Santa Fe, where he is blessed to live and work surrounded by the beauty of central New Mexico.
Spanning Generations
Following his graduation from Trinity University in San Antonio in 2000, Ward's son Sam worked for nearly two years for the blacksmiths of Utopia Forge in Guildford, Surrey, England. He has now joined Ward at Harmony Forge.
The Brinegars' work is principally residential, and Harmony Forge is known for the wide variety of projects they have completed and for their unique solutions to challenging problems. Ward and Sam can provide design services or work from your drawings. A selection of Ward's drawings is included in the gallery on his website.
